Utilising recycled and salvaged timbers

Richard in the Gidgee Forest

Richard Knight has the dream job working at what he does best. With a natural affinity for wood, Richard creates rustic timber furniture that showcases the natural beauty of timber and is built to stand the test of time.

Picture framing has been Richard’s trade for much of his working life taking framing to another level by hand painting and customising to great effect.

Richard’s craft evolved from people like Jimmy Possum, a Tasmanian bushman who during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, made chairs using the same technique of construction.

He worked with simple hand tools such as a draw knife, rasps and chisels. “Jimmy’s chairs were designed so that the more you sat down on them the stronger they became.” Richard added.

Richard has an extensive range of products for sale or commission including artistic furniture pieces, beds created from aged Ironbark fence posts and palings. Also, chairs, stools and tables constructed from timbers such as Maple, Jacaranda, Silky Oak, Tea Tree, She Oak and other salvaged woods. Richard would love to talk with you about your particular needs and designs including aspects of home installations and rustic framing.

Our Values:

Considering the scarcity and rapid depletion of the planet’s natural resources, we believe that growth for the sake of growth is no longer an acceptable corporate aim, that family-sized manufacturers can make a difference by designing durable products built to last a lifetime, by providing personalized services, and by ensuring that their actions impact positively on the social, economic and natural environment in which they operate.

Growing concerns about global warming have increased consumer interest in products that are more environmentally friendly. In response, buyers are starting to demand furniture and accessories made from legally harvested wood, rapidly renewable materials and recycled materials.

In the next decade, furniture industry experts believe that consumers will expect companies to offer only sustainably produced goods. This means that manufacturers that do not use sustainable practices will face an increasingly limited market for their products.

We wish to empower consumers to take action – no matter how small it may seem – to make the world a cleaner, healthier, and friendlier place – both to humans and to animals.

Using readily available naturally shaped materials and simple woodworking tools, he produces a sophisticated range of robust Australian furniture available at:
